Is Grok Down Right Now? How to Check

How to tell in under a minute whether Grok is actually down or the problem is on your side.

Updated Aug 13, 2026

When Grok stops answering, the first job is telling an xAI-side outage apart from a local problem. This takes about a minute.

1. Check the live status

Our Grok status page reflects the current service state. If it reports a partial or major outage, there is nothing to fix on your device — wait it out.

2. Confirm from a second surface

Grok runs on grok.com, inside X, and in the mobile apps. If it fails everywhere, it is an outage. If it fails on one surface only, it is that client. See the Grok app will not load.

3. Rule out your own session

Sign out and back in, start a new chat, and disable VPNs or content blockers. Details in Grok is not responding.

4. What to do during an outage

  • Do not resubmit long prompts repeatedly — this can rate limit you once service returns.
  • Copy any unsent prompt out of the box before refreshing.
  • API users should implement exponential backoff rather than tight retry loops.

How long do Grok outages last?

Most incidents are short and resolve without user action. Degraded performance — slow or truncated answers — is more common than a full outage and usually clears on its own.
