A refusal means the request tripped a safety classifier — often on wording rather than intent.
Rephrase around the trigger
- State your purpose up front ("for a security course assignment...").
- Remove emotive or violent framing that is incidental to the question.
- Split a broad request into narrow, concrete sub-questions.
- Ask for the concept rather than a step-by-step procedure.
Start a clean chat
Refusals are sticky. Once a thread is flagged, later replies stay conservative. Open a new conversation before retrying.
Partial refusals
An answer that starts then stops may not be a refusal at all — a cut-off mid-sentence is usually a timeout. See Grok is not responding.
